First found on Mount Vesuvius, the bane of Pompeii (hence the name) and the surrounding towns, also known as idocrase.

Colours vary ... it can be red, green, brown, purple or yellowish green also occurs in California (Californite), Canada, Austria, Switzerland, and the USSR (Wiluite).
